Gentle, hands-on care that moves at your pace.
Craniosacral therapy is a form of light-touch bodywork. At One Connection Healthcare in Ballard, Seattle, providers use gentle hands-on techniques while you rest, typically fully clothed, on a treatment table.
Appointments generally last 30–50 minutes. Treatment may be part of a broader care visit or scheduled as a dedicated bodywork session. We explain what to expect, check your comfort, and make room for questions along the way.

What Is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy uses light touch and gentle holding techniques, often around the head, neck, back, and sacrum—the bone at the base of the spine.
At OCH, your provider explains where they plan to work and checks that you are comfortable with the approach. Treatment typically takes place over clothing, with adjustments made when needed and with your permission.
Some people seek craniosacral therapy for a quiet, hands-on experience alongside their ongoing care. Research has not established it as an effective treatment for specific medical conditions, and it does not replace appropriate evaluation or treatment.
Who Might Consider This Treatment?
You may be interested in craniosacral therapy if you prefer light-touch bodywork or want to discuss a hands-on approach with your provider.
People sometimes ask about this service while navigating:
Jaw, neck, or shoulder tension
Persistent muscle tension or discomfort
Headaches
Stress or difficulty relaxing
Tension associated with prolonged sitting
Ongoing pain as part of a broader care plan
These symptoms can have many causes. We’ll discuss your health history and goals before deciding whether this approach is appropriate.
Some OCH providers offer craniosacral appointments for children as well as adults. For infants and younger children, contact the front desk to discuss provider availability and an age-appropriate assessment.
Our Approach to Craniosacral Therapy
Feeling nervous about a new treatment? We can move at your pace, explain what we’re doing, and pause whenever you need.
We recognize that receiving hands-on care can bring up physical sensations or emotions. You don’t need to have a particular response for the appointment to be worthwhile, and there is no expectation to discuss anything you would rather keep private.
Your provider may offer gentle breathing guidance if you find it comfortable. We make space for both the physical and emotional experience of receiving care without assuming that emotions need to be “released.”
All OCH providers offering craniosacral therapy have completed additional coursework beyond their naturopathic medical training.
Depending on your needs, care may include:
Detailed pelvic health assessment
Breath and pressure management
Gentle pelvic floor muscle retraining
Core and hip stabilization work
Posture and movement education
Nervous system regulation strategies
Manual therapy techniques, when appropriate
Home exercises and self-care guidance
Lifestyle and habit support
What Happens During an Appointment?
-
01. Checking In & Discussing Your Goals
We begin by discussing your concerns, relevant health history, and what you would like from the appointment. Your provider explains the proposed treatment and asks about any areas you would prefer not to have touched.
-
02. Getting Comfortable
You’ll typically remain fully clothed while resting on a treatment table. If clothing needs to be repositioned, your provider will discuss that with you first. Drapes or blankets are available to keep you covered and warm.
-
03. Gentle Hands-On Treatment
Your provider uses light-touch techniques and gentle holds. You can ask questions, request a change in position or pressure, or pause treatment at any time. Breathing guidance may be included if it feels helpful to you.
-
04. Checking In Before You Leave
At the end of the visit, we discuss how you feel and any questions that have come up. Together, we decide whether another session or a different approach makes sense within your care plan.
Before Your Visit
-
You may find the session restful or notice a change in how tense or comfortable you feel. You may also notice no change. Improvements in pain, sleep, or other symptoms cannot be promised.
Let your provider know about any discomfort, worsening symptoms, or emotional unease during or after treatment. Your experience helps guide whether to continue, adjust, or choose another approach.
-
Tell your provider about recent injuries or surgery, significant medical conditions, and any areas where touch feels uncomfortable. If you are seeking care for new headaches, dizziness, or symptoms following a head injury, those concerns need medical assessment rather than bodywork alone.
Gentle touch can still feel uncomfortable or bring up strong emotions. We can change the approach, pause, or stop. You are welcome to set boundaries around touch and conversation throughout the visit.
For children, we adapt the appointment to their age, comfort, and ability to participate. Contact the front desk before booking for an infant or young child so we can help determine the appropriate next step.
-
We may bill eligible manual therapy services to insurance when appropriate. Coverage depends on your plan, the services provided, and your provider’s network status.
OCH uses CPT code 97140 for applicable manual therapy services. You can ask your insurer whether this code is covered, whether authorization or a referral is required, and whether visit limits apply. Coverage for a billing code does not guarantee coverage for every treatment billed under it.
Copays, deductibles, or coinsurance may apply. If your visit includes additional assessment or care, other billing codes may also be used.
If you are uninsured or receiving out-of-network care, OCH bills according to its time-based office visit rates. Please contact our front desk for current pricing and an estimate before your appointment.
