Medical Management of Eating Disorders in Seattle, WA

HOLISTIC HEALTH FOR ALL BODIES

You’re Not Alone in Navigating Eating Disorder Care

If you’ve experienced an eating disorder you may have already encountered how few medical providers have adequate training in supporting patients with eating disorders.

Did you know most physicians have less than two hours of training in eating disorders in their medical training? This is why the providers of One Connection Healthcare have taken things a step further to deepen their training and experience so that patients like you can show up and receive support in a time of need instead of feeling harmed by your provider or like you are teaching your provider about eating disorders.

Eating disorders are complex and challenging and we want you to feel like you can step into a care home where your trust in your provider is foundational to support your belief in yourself to access the care you may need to recover.

You may be feeling hopeless, like the treatment options feel overwhelming and you don’t know which may be right for you. You may also be feeling treatment fatigue like you have tried all the treatment centers or care options and you don’t know what support to try next if recovery still feels far away. If this sounds familiar you are not alone and we are here to help.

What Makes Our Care Different

Eating disorders don’t occur in a bubble, our team recognizes that eating disorders develop often related to other conditions, social, familial, financial or other cultural influences. Our care works to externalize the factors that may be at play, not just focusing on the eating disorder, but the system in which it developed.

Eating disorders often require a care team approach of a therapist, dietitian and sometimes other specialists. The medical provider on the team we see as the center point of communication, we emphasise the importance of care coordination to take that burden off of the patient and make sure the team is providing cohesive treatment recommendations and support.

We invite families to participate in care where that is needed or supportive to the patient and give extra time to coordinate with families for patients when that has been requested.

We also acknowledge that many eating disorders evolve from a cultural weight stigma as well as weight stigma in healthcare settings. We acknowledge that eating disorders can happen in all body sizes and when possible we work to not have weight be the primary focus in a recovery model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We’ve got answers! Check out these FAQs. If you don’t see your question answered here, get in touch.

  • Yes! We can schedule this with our medical assistant and often can get you in same day for this. We also can send data collected to anyone on your care team.

  • Yes! We are very versed in this. We have a scale that makes it easy to collect a blind weight that is also in a private space. Our medical records system is equipped to hide the weight when a blind weight is requested. Anytime we get a weight we ask if it is preferred the weight be blinded.

  • Yes! We can work with you and also coordinate care where indicated with anyone on your care team including another PCP.

  • To coordinate care we will have you sign a release of information for your other care providers. After this is signed we work to set up an initial phone call with your care providers. We will always discuss with you first what information feels ok to discuss and what information may not feel ok to share. From there we set up preferred communication methods with your care team moving forward. You may request we reach out to your care team at anytime.

  • If we find you are medically unstable in a visit which could include examples of a very low heart rate or a dangerously abnormal value on labs we may refer to the emergency department. If we do engage in this recommendation we involve you in that process and we encourage a ‘warm handoff’ where we call the emergency department ahead of time to alert them as to why you are coming in to reduce the energy from you needing to explain this. We work with you to find the safest way possible to get to emergency care.

  • Yes, we are able to offer this even if you are new to our care and can usually get the required testing done in one visit if needed.

  • No, we only offer outpatient eating disorder care including medical management, nutrition, coaching and therapy services.
