Hi, I’m Dr. Shereen Spriggs (she/her), a weight-inclusive naturopathic physician and primary care provider who works with adults 18 and older in Ballard.
I especially enjoy caring for people who have felt misunderstood, dismissed, or like they have had to become their own medical detective. My goal is to create a space where you feel listened to, respected, believed, and genuinely involved in decisions about your health.

WEIGHT-INCLUSIVE PRIMARY CARE & FAT-LIBERATION–INFORMED CARE IN BALLARD
Dr. Shereen Spriggs provides affirming, weight-inclusive primary care for adults navigating chronic illness, eating disorders, hormonal health, and complex relationships with food and their bodies.
Meet Dr. Shereen Spriggs
My practice centers LGBTQIA2S+ people, BIPOC communities, members of the fat community, neurodivergent people, people living with chronic illness and pain, and those navigating complex relationships with food, their bodies, and healthcare. I am also polyamory- and kink-affirming.
I want my patients to feel like they can bring their whole selves into the room. You do not need to make yourself smaller, more “compliant,” or easier to understand in order to receive thoughtful care.
My own identities and lived experiences shape the way I practice. I am a queer, fat, Iranian, disabled, and neurodiverse woman, and I know firsthand that our identities can influence how we experience our bodies, our health, and the healthcare system. These experiences have deepened my commitment to creating care that is affirming, accessible, and grounded in curiosity rather than assumptions.
Curiosity, Body Trust & Collaborative Care
I believe good healthcare starts with curiosity rather than assumptions.
Many people come to primary care carrying years of experiences in which their symptoms were minimized, their bodies were blamed, or their concerns were not heard. My approach begins with the belief that your body is giving us information.
Together, we can look at symptoms, patterns, laboratory results, medications, your relationship with food, your environment, stress, sleep, movement, relationships, and other factors that may be relevant. I want to help you gather useful information about your body so that healthcare decisions can come from greater awareness rather than fear, shame, or a sense that you have to “fix” yourself.
I practice from a fat liberation lens and support body trust, intuitive eating, and gentle nutrition. This means I do not center your weight as the target that needs changing. Instead, I focus on symptoms, laboratory values, your lived experience, and the health outcomes that matter to you.
Areas of Clinical Focus
-
I provide ongoing, relationship-based primary care for adults 18 and older. My practice is particularly well suited to people who want a collaborative relationship with their healthcare provider and who may have complex, overlapping, or longstanding concerns.
I practice from a weight-inclusive, fat liberation lens. Your weight is not treated as the problem that must be solved before your symptoms are taken seriously. My goal is to understand the whole picture, offer meaningful options, and help you make decisions grounded in information and self-compassion.
Primary care may also include support for asthma, eczema, allergies, preventive health, and other ongoing or acute concerns.
-
I support patients with endometriosis and endocrine, hormonal, and metabolic concerns, including PMOS—formerly known as PCOS—diabetes, insulin resistance, and menopause.
My goal is to help you understand what your symptoms and laboratory results may be telling us without reducing your health to weight or body size. Together, we can explore options that reflect your needs, priorities, and preferences.
-
I work with patients navigating Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and hypermobility, mast cell activation syndrome, POTS and dysautonomia, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, lipedema, lymphedema, and other complex or overlapping conditions.
These concerns can affect multiple systems and may not fit neatly into one diagnosis. I take the time to understand your history, identify patterns, and gather information that can help us develop a thoughtful and sustainable approach.
-
I provide care for digestive concerns including GERD, IBS, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic constipation, and gastroparesis.
Digestive health can be connected to many other parts of physical and emotional well-being. I work with patients to explore those connections without automatically relying on restrictive diets or recommendations that may undermine body trust or eating-disorder recovery.
-
I care for patients navigating eating disorders and complicated relationships with food, including binge eating disorder, orthorexia, anorexia nervosa, and ARFID.
My approach is grounded in fat liberation, body trust, intuitive eating, gentle nutrition, and harm reduction. I work collaboratively with therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals when a broader treatment team is needed.
I do not believe that health, value, or access to respectful medical care should be determined by body size.
-
I support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relational challenges, life transitions, ADHD, autism, OCD, and other mental health or neurodivergent concerns.
My practice welcomes LGBTQIA2S+ people and is polyamory- and kink-affirming. Conversations about relationships, sexuality, identity, sensory needs, communication, and other aspects of your life are welcome when they are relevant to your health and well-being.
My goal is to create care that makes room for the whole person rather than requiring you to separate your physical health from your identities, relationships, emotions, or lived experiences.
Background, Credentials, and Clinical Experience
I studied neurobiology at the University of Washington and earned my Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University.
My education, identities, and lived experiences have shaped an approach to healthcare that recognizes the effects of fatphobia, ableism, racism, heterosexism, transphobia, and other systems of oppression on health and access to care.
The tools I commonly use may include medications, supplements, botanical medicine, laboratory testing, myofascial cupping, red-light laser therapy, hydrotherapy, trigger-point injections, and emotional support.

What Working With Dr. Spriggs Looks Like
I see healthcare as a partnership. I bring clinical knowledge and experience, and you bring expertise about your own body, history, values, and life.
My job is not simply to tell you what to do. It is to help you understand what may be happening, what options are available, and what the potential benefits, risks, and uncertainties are so that we can make decisions together.
-
01. Curiosity & Shared Decision-Making
Your body is giving us information. Together, we can explore your symptoms, patterns, laboratory results, medications, environment, relationship with food, stress, sleep, movement, relationships, and other factors that may be relevant.
My goal is to provide useful information and explain your options so that you can make healthcare decisions from greater awareness rather than fear, shame, or pressure.
-
02. Care That Respects Your Capacity
I want the pace of care to feel sustainable for you. I regularly check in about your internal and external resources—your energy, capacity, time, finances, support systems, and what else is happening in your life.
There is no shame or judgment if a treatment plan becomes too much or does not work as expected. Instead, we get curious together. What felt unrealistic? What got in the way? What did your body, brain, or circumstances need that we did not account for?
A treatment plan is something we can continually adjust until we find an approach that works for you.
-
03. Feedback, Accountability & Repair
I deeply value feedback. I am human, and something I say or do may not always land the way I intended.
If that happens, I appreciate the vulnerability it takes to tell me. I am interested in understanding how an interaction affected you rather than becoming defensive or assuming I already know what your experience was.
We can make space for what happened, hold it together, and use that information to help shape how we move forward in our relationship and your care.

What Keeps Me Joyful
Outside of clinical practice, I enjoy cooking for the people I love, traveling, and creating opportunities for community and connection. These things matter to me because I believe health is about more than symptoms and laboratory results. Relationships, community, pleasure, creativity, rest, and a sense of belonging can all be part of what makes a life feel well lived.
